In October 2011 I got an invitation to a wedding from my dear friend and colleague Bere. She is Mexican, so of course the wedding would be in Mexico. But this was just the smallest problem. 😀

More important of course was the question of what to wear to this occasion. As for the last wedding I went to I wanted to sew a dress. For this her dressing code was more than helpful:

  • The wedding was going to be held at the beach of the Caribbean. So high heels were an absolutely terrible idea, but flip-flops or sandals not so much. I loved this part the most because I am not wearing anything else in summer anyway.
  • Bere wanted people to wear colorful clothes, no white, black or shades of gray. (And who is seriously dressing white on a wedding next to the bride?)
  • Deciding to make a longer trip out of it, it had to be dress that I could wear throughout those seven weeks again. I didn’t want it to just clutter up my backpack.

That is why I decided to sew this summery beach dress by Burda. The fabric I got from Dawanda and the lining as well as the buttons I got from  “Stoffhaus” around the corner.

I have to admit that this was the most complicated instruction I got so far from Burda. I almost got crazy with it, I didn’t understand nearly every second step and improvised a lot. For example, I sewed in the zipper starting from the waistline instead of in the armpit. Now it is in the dress, but has no real use.

And then the fabric was terrible difficult to sew. Well, this is my own fault for choosing this one but I just cannot withstand little flowers on anything. In the end I didn’t walk around naked at the wedding like Bere feared for a while.
