I have this urge to make presents for babies whenever I got the chance. But those things for the little ones are just too cute.

Last year – and way into this year – a lot of my friends got pregnant and/or kids. I’m probably just reaching that age where it is more common to happen. No problem, I am completely happy about it!

This crocheted blanket was a request from my friend Rike. She already asked for it before I knew she was pregnant. And I never wondered about why she wanted a baby blanket. Sometimes I am really dense. 🙂

The pattern originated from an old GDR magazine with a lot of patterns for blankets, that I found again in my mothers drawers. The original had a lion in the middle, but Rike chose an elephant, so I changed it for my own design.

I used Baby Cashmerino in lime (#002) by Debbie Bliss – I bought it again in one of my favourite shops handmade Berlin. The elephant was stitched with colour #059 (darkpetrol), so where the crocheted ears and tail.

As an enhancement I sewed dark blue fleece on the bottom of the blanket.

For a few month now the blanket is heavily used and I hope, she stays a good companion for a few years longer.
