DIY business cards with Washi Tape

Last Saturday I was at the GeekGirlMeetup in Berlin. (Well, I am a web developer after all, right?!)

The last time I was at an event like that, I was asked for business cards again and again. Of course that makes sense even in our technical world. It is still one of the easiest and fastest ways to keep further contact. I mean this way you’ll be reminded the next morning or even week which people you’ve met. Otherwise, you would just end up somewhere in my Facebook or LinkedIn contact list.

But there is one big problem with the business card approach: I neither have my brand logo idea ready nor do I have time and money to do a professional business card. But is that really necessary? After all, I am a crafty person, why shouldn’t I do my own fast put-together business card?

As a first step I obviously got some inspiration from the Internet again. But in the end it of course ended up quite differently.

Needed materials:

• Strong paper in a liked color (e.g. from the scrapbooking part of a shop)
• Washi Tape
• Stamps or pencils, whatever you prefer
• A cutter

My stamp set from Stieber consists of different letter types with – lucky me – the @-sign as well, but unfortunately not enough u’s.

Cut paper in wanted size. My cards are a size of 9cm x 5cm.

Put Washi Tape on one edge. I reserved some millimeters for the backside of the paper and folded the tape at the edge. This way I could also hide my terribly cut edges. I seriously need some practice with that.

At first I put one long sheet of tape to the paper and then I did the further cutting. This way I didn’t have to take care of taping every business card individually.

Stamping! There is nothing more to add.

A little variation: Punch a small motive on a corner of the card. Of course, I was searching everywhere for a dinosaur, but couldn’t find one that soon. But I hope for the next batch I’ll have one ready
